Instructions
Overview
The purpose of the review is to ensure that the three asteroid data bundles are ready to be archived, or to determine liens to be corrected before archiving. The best place to get started is with the bundle_description.txt, located in the document collection of the bundle.
Dataset Assignments:
- Howell: Primary on DES Taxonomy & Small Bodies Occultations; Secondary on PRIMASS-L
- DeMeo: Primary on PRIMASS-L ; Secondary on DES Taxonomy and Small Bodies Occultations.
1 The Data
Confirm that you can read and use the data products with your preferred analysis software. (Please note in your report the software used.) Evaluate the validity and reasonableness of the data products. For the primary reviewer, an additional approach to evaluating the data is to use them to answer some simple scientific questions.
Note any concerns or deficiencies.
2 The Metadata
Each data product is accompanied by a PDS label file, with the same filename with extension .xml. These labels contain the metadata for the data. Review the data labels to ensure they contain sufficient information to understand and use the data. The xml labels can be read in a text editor or browser, or you can use the PDS4 Viewer (https://sbnwiki.astro.umd.edu/wiki/PDS4_Viewer) for a more human-friendly view. NOTE: If you use the PDS4 Viewer to read the labels, make sure to select 'Full Label' in the 'View' top bar after having clicked on the 'Label' button. If you need any help interpreting the labels, let us know.
3 The Documentation
Review the bundle description to make sure it is understandable and clear, that it correctly describes the data products provided in the bundle, and that all information needed to understand and use the data products is present. Review all the other documents as well.
4 Certification
Certification for the PDS signifies that the archive package can be released to the public including the liens list. It is in such a shape that the data are correct and that the documentation is adequate so that a user will not make erroneous conclusion or be confused.
5 Review Reports
Reviewers will make a written report of their review and their specific comments and recommendations (in their preferred format like .txt, .pdf, etc.). Mark them as "major" for things which you feel must be resolved for the data set to be archivable, "suggestion" for things you feel would be an improvement but are not strictly necessary, and "minor" for things like typos. In addition to reporting deficiencies, please note the components of the bundles which you examined and find ready to archive, so we can confirm that everything has been reviewed. Also note whether you consider the data set as certified.
6 Review Procedure
The review will be carried out entirely by email unless major problems are identified. PDS/SBN will collate all the review comments into a liens list which will be sent out for approval. The liens list will then be sent to the providers. PDS/SBN will be responsible for ensuring liens compliance.
Email your reports to Beatrice Mueller (mueller@psi.edu) by the end of the day March 4, 2024
